Industrial wet painting in Hennigsdorf near Berlin
From the complete carbody to the single part: wet paint finishes to customer specification – with paint stripping and blasting as in-house surface preparation.
Alongside powder coating, PICTUM Oberflächentechnik GmbH paints components using the wet paint process – at the Hennigsdorf location on the Alstom site, for customers from the rail vehicle industry, from industry and trade as well as for private customers from Berlin and Brandenburg.
Selection criteria for wet paint coatings
Not every component can or should be powder coated. Wet paint is the appropriate process when components cannot withstand the curing temperatures of powder coating, when special colour shades or effects are required, or when a multi-layer system – for example primer, intermediate coat and topcoat – is specified. In rail vehicle manufacturing in particular, many components are coated by the wet paint process to customer specification. As we run both processes in house, we recommend the one that suits your component and your requirement – not the one that happens to be available.

Preparation determines durability
Surface preparation is the basis of every durable paint finish: contaminated, corroded or already coated parts are first blasted or paint stripped – both in house. The coating system is then applied to your specification, typically as a system of primer and topcoat.

Applications
We paint components for rail vehicles, machine and plant parts, structural steelwork as well as housings and sheet metal parts for trade customers, among others. Private customers commission us, for example, to paint metal furniture, gates or individual parts that cannot be oven cured. Of interest to commercial buyers: combining paint stripping, blasting and painting at one location removes the need to coordinate several service providers – one contact, one delivery date, one responsibility for quality.
Process steps and quality assurance in wet painting
A durable paint finish is built up in many steps, and each one contributes to the result: masking on a clean, grease-free substrate, so that edges stay sharp and adjacent surfaces are protected. Filling and sanding with material suited to the substrate (1K for fine scratches, 2K for load-bearing repairs – never too thick, otherwise pores can form). Primer with the dual function of corrosion protection and adhesion promoter, matched to steel, aluminium or galvanised surfaces. Where the system provides for it, the topcoat is applied wet-on-wet – with short flash-off phases instead of full drying, without visible overlaps. On request we seal joints before painting. At the end come coating thickness, cross-cut and colour shade testing – documented and explained on our quality page.
Benefits
Wet paint finishes allow a wide range of colour shades, gloss levels and functional coating systems and are also suitable for temperature-sensitive components. Combined with the right surface preparation, they provide effective, long-lasting corrosion protection. We supply colour shades to RAL and NCS, as a DB shade in line with rail specifications and as a custom shade to customer specification. Our quality management system is certified to ISO 9001:2015; on request we document coating thicknesses and workmanship for each order.
